Lauries Story V3

Laurie · Retired designer · Northwoods, Wisconsin

Every option she was offered came with a building attached.

The operating room. The chamber. The drive, the waiting room, the appointment somebody else scheduled. Laurie went looking for the part that did not need any of it — and that is the part she ran, at her kitchen table, in a house far enough out in the Northwoods that reception is something you get lucky with.

What was on offer

Two surgeries had not closed it, so the answer was a third.

Laurie is a designer. Retired, technically — except her clients keep her busy. The wound in her arm kept weeping and would not close, and her surgeon proposed operating again.

She turned him down on arithmetic. Before the second operation she had been told it would heal her in a month instead of three. Three months later she was not healed.

“And I said, ‘I don’t think so.’ And he said, ‘Why not?’”

Laurie

She was fair about it. “Not his fault,” she says. “I’m probably just a difficult patient.” The surgeon is great, in her telling. She simply wanted an opinion from somebody whose instrument was not a scalpel.

“I decided I would also see a wound doctor, versus the surgeon, because surgeons want to operate.”

Laurie

The wound doctor’s plan was hyperbaric treatment. Two hours a day, three days a week, for as long as it took. Another building, on somebody else’s calendar. What it reminded her of was going back to the radiation treatments, and there had been twenty-five of those.

She was not ready for it. She wanted to try something new first.

The subtraction

Take away everything that was not the treatment itself.

Look at what each of those options actually required of her, and most of it has nothing to do with healing an arm. Strip that out and see what is left standing.

Removed

The operating room, and a third round of general anesthesia

The hyperbaric chamber, six hours of it every week

The drive there and the drive back, from the Northwoods

The waiting room

An appointment somebody else put on the calendar

An open-ended commitment with no end date attached to it

What was left: about forty minutes, a small device, and her own kitchen table.

Drawn from the options Laurie describes being offered, and the routine she describes running instead.

Why it can leave the building

It is 2.4 ounces, and it does not need to be powerful.

The VIBE is a PEMF device — pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. It works by resonance rather than intensity, which is the reason it fits in a hand instead of a room.

It is not a shrunken version of a high-powered machine. High-intensity systems drive muscle contraction, and that is a different mechanism entirely. Resonance does not need force, so it does not need the equipment that generates force, so it does not need the building that houses the equipment. That is the whole chain, and Laurie is standing at the end of it.

What she actually did

She had been hearing about it on Fox News. Over and over.

Not once. Repeatedly, until the repetition finally did what repetition does. “Okay, I’ve heard this several times. I should try it.”

She ordered the VIBE and ran the wound healing protocol. Twice a day at the start, sometimes once, five days a week. Her verdict on the routine: “It’s so easy.”

Her family had a name for the wound by then. They called it the party trick — you could see all the way down into her arm, and when she moved her wrist you could watch the tendon slide back and forth. Her husband and her daughter refused to look at it.

What surprised her was how quickly it started looking different. The opening turned more red, more vital — her description. The party trick was fading. She could not believe it, and her husband could not either.

At her next appointment the wound doctor asked whether she still had her party trick. She told him no, it was healing.

No third operation. No chamber.

Laurie’s own photographs of the same arm. The pale structure marked in the first one is the tendon she described — the one you could watch move when she flexed her wrist. Her family called it the party trick. The first photograph was taken out of focus and has been sharpened.

What stayed in the house

Because it never left, other people started using it.

Her husband damaged his finger, so now she has to share.

Her daughter Jackie got her own. Laurie is the one who found the VIBE and told her about it.

“Mom, I have to tell you, it really works.”

Jackie, phoning her mother from the road

Jackie had already taken one thing out of her life — she removed herself from the situation that caused the anxiety — and found that it did not fix the sleeping. Here is the rest in her own words.

Jackie — Laurie’s daughter

I’ve struggled with situational anxiety and insomnia for a year and a half. The insomnia got to be bad enough that I had to get on prescription medication for it, and I was on it for about a year and three months. I removed myself from the situation of anxiety, but I still continued to need medication to get a full night’s rest.

I was told by a doctor that my nervous system would need six months to a year to reset. Since I was already past that point, I was losing hope about being able to sleep unmedicated again.

My mom found the VIBE and I’ve tried several protocols — the PTSD setting being the most powerful for acute situations, and the brain wave Alpha being my staple for my evening routine, along with vagus nerve and some other protocols sprinkled in as needed.

After just a week or two of using the VIBE, I was able to completely get off my prescription sleeping medication. I truly believe that it has helped me get over the hump of resetting my nervous system after a stressful event. I am delighted to have a natural approach to treating my body, and have recommended it to dozens of people.

Laurie bought a second device for her sister, on the grounds that her sister needed it whether her sister agreed or not — “I’m probably a helicopter person” — and her sister declined. The sister is still on the list. She visits in a couple of days, and Laurie intends to make her try it, preferably along with the dog, who has terrible anxiety in the car.

None of that happens if the thing lives in a clinic.

“I just wish that everyone could experience what I did, because they would go out and buy one, without a doubt. I’m kind of like an ex-smoker that makes everybody think that they need to stop smoking.”

The part most people leave out

She says it does not work for everybody.

“I know it doesn’t work for everyone. That’s the way life is. But this has been awesome for me.”

Laurie

That is the honest version and it is the one worth repeating. Laurie’s results are her own, and none of this is a claim about what surgery or hyperbaric treatment can do for anybody — those were her doctors’ recommendations and she is not second-guessing them for you. What she is telling you is that she wanted to try the option that did not require a building before she agreed to the one that did.
